Hello everyone! I trust that you are doing well and if not, that you are trusting Jesus to get you through it. He is s friend that sticketh closer than a brother! Do not despair in trials, God is always there right beside us as we walk through the valley of the shadow of death!

I am going to address a topic that can be very controversial depending on the person, “Tithing,” giving to God what is His in the first place. There are many scriptures that talk about this, almost 30 in the Old Testament and 7 in the New Testament contain the words, “tithe or tithes.” With several others that say “tenth” which is what a tithe is, a “tenth”. That makes it very easy, one tenth of what we earn or are given belongs to the Lord.

Now if you have continued with me this far, allow me to explain. Many preachers, teachers are afraid to teach on tithing for fear of losing people, that would not be the case with me. I believe that if I preach, teach the whole council of God blessings will come to those who obey.

So, let’s go to the first time the tithe/tenth was mentioned, Genesis 14:20 “And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.” So, all the spoils that he had taken in battle, he gave God a tenth/tithe. Now the problem is that most people have been taught that the tithe is no longer Gods, that they can do whatever they want with what God allows them to have. That could be no further from the truth. I will give you some other scriptures to check out then, move to the New Testament, Leviticus 27:30, 32; Numbers 18:26; Deuteronomy 12:17; 14:22-23, 28; Nehemiah 10:38; 13:12. And the most pointed of all Malachi 3:8-9 “Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.” So, they had robbed God in their tithing, but not that alone, also in offerings. Offerings are above the tithe, that is the money that God lays on your heart to give to some missionary, church project, some other ministry than your local church, to name a few.

You do not split up your tithe to other things. Why, you ask… Malachi 3:10 “Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.” God is saying that if we are faithful in giving our tithes and offerings, He will bless us. You might ask, “what if we don’t give our tithe?” Well then, read verse 11 of Malachi chapter 3. Things will happen that cost you, car will need a repair, dishwasher will break, furnace will quit, maybe you pay will get cut, and on and on.

New Testament, Matthew 23:23, Jesus speaking tells the Pharisees that they are hypocrites, because they tithe but do not obey law, judgment, mercy, and faith. He said that it was good that they gave the tenth, but they should not have omitted the other. Also, Luke 11:42, the same thing recorded by Luke. So, Jesus tells them that they should be tithing. Luke 6:38 relates also as the scripture tells us “to give”, as you give it will be given unto you. And Hebrews supports the fact of tithing as a good thing, chapter 7 verses 5-6, 8-9. So, to say that tithing is not for us, is not Biblically correct.

So much more that I could say, but space won’t allow. The only place in Scripture that God tells us to prove Him is regarding our tithe. Try Him and see that it works, not only works but brings blessing.

Oh, the storehouse in Malachi 3 is the local church where you belong, where you get your spiritual food and fellowship. The local church has expenses, insurance, utilities, salaries, maintenance, supplies, and much more. Trust God have faith and give it a try.
